GOBankingRates — whose mission, according to its website, is “to empower everyone to leverage all that is available to help people get themselves into a financial situation to ‘Live Richer’ and let their money work for them to make their life great” — was looking to help retirees out by publishing a recent report, “44 Best Small Towns To Retire in America.”
“Some small towns are better suited for retirees for many reasons, from a lower cost of living to reduced crime rates and higher ratings for overall livability,” explains the report.
In finding these towns, GOBankingRates seeded a list based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau of those in the country which had between 1,000 and 10,000 residents. Other factors such as crime and rent costs were then factored in, as sourced from the FBI and Zillow, among others.
Five locations in Pennsylvania made it onto the final list: Sharpsburg in Allegheny County; Brentwood in Allegheny County; Corapolis, again, in Allegheny County; Camp Hill in Cumberland County; and Hatboro in Montgomery County.
This isn’t the first time Pennsylvania has been recognized for being an attractive location for those looking to retire: A previous PennLive article listed Pittsburgh and Philadelphia as top metro areas for those leaving the workforce, while Harrisburg was recognized for similar reasons, along with Reading, Lancaster, Scranton, and Allentown.
Other small towns that made it onto the GOBankingRates list were Riverdale, Utah; Hillsborough, N.C.; and Roanoke, Texas.
