HURRICANE, Utah (KUTV) - Southern Utah police early Thursday found an American flag at Hurricane High School had been taken off the flagpole, shredded, and replaced with an ISIS flag.

Officer Ken Thompson, spokesperson for the Hurricane Police Department, told KUTV they don't know if a student or someone passing through the community pulled this stunt.

"Most likely somebody else knows...other than just the person who did it. Officers have received tips this morning and they're following those leads and so far they haven't generated a credible lead but tips can help us out a lot." Thompson said.

After further investigation on campus, police also found the worlds "ISIS is comi" spray painted on a wall on the east side of the school.

Thompson said investigators believe the vandal(s) didn't get a chance to finish the word "coming" and left it saying "comi."

The graffiti was removed by Washington County School District employees shortly after it was found. The ISIS flag was also removed and replaced with a new American flag. Investigators have been following leads throughout the day, but at this time no arrest has been made.

According to a Facebook post on the Hurricane City Police Department page, "HCPD investigators sent an image of the flag to the FBI who analyzed it, [and] based on information we received from the FBI we do not believe this act was perpetrated by someone linked to the Islamic State."

With no clues as to who vandalized the school and replaced the flag, police are asking anyone with information on the vandalism to please call dispatch at 435-627-4999.
